Volvo will stop selling fuel vehicles next year! CEO: Low maintenance cost and low noise for customers.
A few days ago, Zhidian Travel learned from Volvo officials that the brand plans to stop producing its diesel version in 2024, and said that the changing market demand, stricter emission regulations and attention to electrification are the main reasons for its decision to cut diesel engines. At the same time, Jim Rowan, CEO of Volvo, also revealed: "Electric power systems are our future, and they are better than internal combustion engines. They produce less noise, less vibration, lower maintenance costs for customers, and zero exhaust emissions."
At the same time, Volvo officials also said that diesel vehicles used to be "bread and butter" in the European market, but now they have been demanded by electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid vehicles. According to the data of Reuters, the Volvo diesel version only accounts for 8.9% of the brand’s global sales in 2022; According to the data of August 2023, electric vehicles accounted for 33% of Volvo car sales, and the remaining 67% were internal combustion engines (gasoline version and plug-in hybrid vehicle), while the market share of diesel models also dropped from 50% in 2015 to 14.1% in July 2023.
According to Volvo brand planning, the official announced that it will become a brand of pure electric vehicles by 2030, and plans to achieve carbon neutrality by 2040, and stopped working on new internal combustion engine models last year. In addition, the brand’s first pure electric MPV model will also be launched in the world in the fourth quarter of this year. The new car will be built on the vast architecture platform of Geely SEA, and it is expected to be driven by dual-motor four-wheel drive, and it is expected to be equipped with ternary lithium batteries and the latest Kirin batteries. The cruising range of CLTC is about 700-800km.
